Word 2007 spell check stopped working

Perplexed

The spell checker in Word 2007 stopped working with the English (US)
dictionary. To get spell check to work at all, I had to switch to English
(Australian) or (Canadian) dictionary & with those, it won't self-correct but
will only underline errors. Any suggestions?
