Word 2007 stops working (under Vista)

States a problem caused Word to stop working. No problems show up when
diagnotics are run. This error will occur after opening Word and selecting
the X to close or selecting close Word from the menu. When doubling clicking
on an existing Windows document from Windows explorer, most often the Office
starts but the document does not open.

The other oddity is that when selecting Word Options, the only menu item
available is Popular. The other menu items can not be selected.

All applicable Office updates have been completed. Diagnostics came up
clean. Office repair was done. Office was re-installed. Office was removed
and re-installed and after all of this error is still occuring preventing
successful use of Office.

I have the same problem using Vista 64 bit. I have both and HP and Xerox
printer on the LAN I use. so what do I do now?

as this thread has different problems and it is unclear which is applicable
