Word 2007 Styles

After converting a Word 2002 document to Word 2007 Word apparently created
several hundred styles and displays them wherever there is a Style selection.
It is now very difficult to find the correct style when a change is wanted.
How can I get rid of all of the unnecessary styles?

You can select which styles you want displayed in a template. Open the
Styles dialog and check out the icons at the bottom for this.

In Word 2007, if you use direct formatting on a style, it creates another
style. For example, if you have a style 'MyPara' and you decide you need it
indented, it will create a second style 'MyPara Left Indent'. If you want
all the MyPara paragraphs to look like this, if you right-click MyPara and
select Update to Match Selection, it will update all the MyPara paragraphs
and the MyPara Left Indent will be removed.

Terry, thanks for your tip. I explored all of the icon functions and manage
options but there was still no way to reduce the size of the list. I think
the key was your comment that Word 2007 automatically creates a named style
for any foramat change.
