Word 2007 Text Form Field length

Is there a way of setting a text form field so that if it is left blank and
the form is printed it will show as filling the width of the page? Right now
I have several rows of them but if they're left blank they show about a
quarter inch of space on the page when printed. It just doesn't look right.
I can set the maximum length, but that only limits the number of characters
that can be typed. I've tried putting in instructional text, but then the
text is printed if the field is left blank. I'm open to approaches other
than text form fields, naturally. Thanks.
