I am using Office 2007 which I upgraded from Office 2000, choosing not to
retain the old version of Word when I installed it.
When I right click on a word and select "Look up", I get a dialog box
stating "Microsoft Office Word can't open thesaurus. The function is not
currently installed. WOuld you like to install it now?
If I click "Yes", it asks me to insert the Microsoft Office 2000 disk.
If I click "No", it gives me the thesaurus and dictionary in the sidebar.
So obviously the thesaurus is installed.
Interestingly, if instead of clicking "Look up", I click "Synonyms". I get
the list of sysnonyms with "Thesaurus" as the last option. Clicking there
brings up the thesaurus with no error.
Not a big deal since the work-around is easy. But would you know offhand
how to suppress the error dialog box?
