Word 2007 to .pdf conversion problems

Hi,
I am using Word 2007 and the "Save As PDF or XPS" function to convert a file
to a .PDF. The problem is that I have had several different recipients of
these converted files tell me that they cannot read the files and that they
are actually tagged as .DAT files. This happens despite my confirmation that
the .PDF is saved locally as a .PDF and it does launch the Acrobat Reader
without complications on my system.

Any ideas? I'm tired of having to fax these documents on to my clients ;-)

I've created PDFs successfully with the Add-In to Word 2007 (even
submitted some for prof. printing), so there's certainly no systematic
error there.

Have you tried creating a PDF in another way and sending that to one of
the clients in question? DAT files sounds vaguely familier, like bad
communication between email applications ...

A quick check at Google suggests that the problem is associated with Outlook
and sending messages in Rich Text Format which other mail readers, such as
Outlook Express cannot handle. Change your e-mail format to plain text or
html.
