Word 2007 TOC page numbers problem

M

When I print, all of the page numbers in my TOC change to "1" and then print
the number "1" as the page for each heading (doesn't matter what level of
heading).

In addition, when I convert a Word doc into PDF the page numbers change to
the number "1".

I have not been able to find any answer in the Help or in any of the topics
already posted (although I do see that someone else has had a similar
problem, but there is no response to that post).

Please advise me on the solution(s) to this - it has become an issue at
work. Thanks in advance!

Can you manually update the TOC to get the correct numbers?

Are you updating fields (which include page numbers) on print?

Are you using a special method (such as a macro) to update fields or create
documents?

Yes, manually updating will get the correct page numbers (that's after the
print has completed with all page numbers as "1"). However, once the doc has
been converted into pdf, there is nothing I can do with the pdf itself.

I checked for macros and found none.

We have over twenty computers in one lab and 13 computers (all running
office 2007) in my office - this issue crops up no matter which computer I am
on or who is logged in to the computer.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention! I am hopeful you will be
able to help me with a solution or work around.

Is "Update fields before printing" checked (Office button | Word Options,
Display category)? If so, does unchecking it make a difference?

If everything else fails, you can update the TOC manually, and then lock it
(Ctrl+F11) to prevent any further updates. Then make a printout, or print to
PDF. The next time you need to update the TOC in Word, unlock the field (by
pressing Ctrl+Shift+F11).

Thanks so so much!

Locking the fields does the trick for printing and publishing to PDF.

Everyone in my office thanks you as well.
