Hi,
Please excuse me if I have jumped to the wrong conclusion and am not giving
you the information that you specifically ask for, but your question suggests
that you are experiencing some pain and frustration in making the transition
from Word XP to Word 2007. In Word XP, you found comfortable ways to
proficiently perform your tasks, and now you unexpectedly found yourself
barely knowing how to do the simplest tasks in a new unfamiliar user
interface. I assume that you would probably prefer getting your work done
than spending your time re-learning how to do things that you already knew
how to do quickly and easily.
There are some ways to make the transition to Word 2007 a little smoother.
For one thing, you should know that any sequence of keys that you pressed to
open something from a Word 2003 menu still works in Word 2007. (Since the
Word XP menu system is nearly the same as the Word 2003 menu system, this
statement should also apply to Word XP.) You can still press Alt with the
letter that opened one of the Word 2003 menus followed by the appropriate
letter for one of the menu items to activate that menu item. For example,
pressing Alt+T and then O will open the Options dialog box just like in Word
2003. If you remember such sequences, you can still use them.
Also, the key combinations that performed tasks in Word 2003 (and Word XP)
still work in Word 2007. For example, Ctrl+S still saves your document,
Ctrl+A still selects all, etc. Using key combinations always had the
advantage that they freed you from reaching for your mouse and from looking
through menus and now the Ribbon.
There is a lot of information on the Web to help you with this transition. I
suggest that you check out the Interactive: Word 2003 to Word 2007 Command
Reference Guide at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100744321033.aspx. There is also a
useful guide at
http://www.marshall.usc.edu/assets/003/5290.pdf, which shows
the Word 2007 equivalents for everything in the previous menus in one PDF
file. These are just two that I found helpful. There are many more.
