Word 2007 UI in italics

Office 2007 has just "converted" its ui to italics. All the menu terms
(Home, Insert, Page Layout, etc.) are in italics, as are all the words in
the Office button menu. I just installed IE8 a day or two ago. Is there
anything I can do to set this back? I googled for a solution but of course
the results were filled with instructions on how to put text in italics.

Seems as if a font has been damaged (and is substituted by an italic font).
Have you tried repairing the installation?
