Word 2007 will not open existing doc docx files - other problems

S

SSD

Double-clicking (or right click select open) a doc or docx file will cause
Word 2007 to open, but then it goes to blank (no document, no new document).
Word Options are not accessible.

Opening Word 2007 first, then clicking Open, selecting a document (doc or
docx) will load document. But Options still not available and mouse
functions do not work.

All other Office programs work.

File associations are in place. Trusted sites includes all template,
startup and document locations.

Installed, uninstalled, registry cleaned, installed again... no changes.

Problem started about first or second week of June 2008.

Either you have a bad third party add-in or an update has corrupted your
Word DataKey.

Test the add-ins by running in Safe Mode. From Start, Run (Winkey+R), type
in

winword /a

and press enter. Now try opening and closing a document now. If it is OK
now, then you have installed something that has placed an incompatible
add-in in Word/Office.

See how to find add-ins

If it is not an add-in and still fails in Safe Mode, then run Regedit, find
and delete the Word DataKey.
