The Subject line is for the subject... not the entire message.
It's hard for any of us to diagnose your problem unless you're willing to
provide more information.
However, just as a guess... press Ctrl+N to create a new document.
Right-click in that new document and choose Paragraph... In the Paragraph
dialog, under Spacing, set Line spacing to Single. (If you also want no
extra spacing between paragraphs, then set Before and After spacing both to
0... but that's not what users generally want).
At the bottom of that dialog, click Default, and confirm by clicking Yes.
Close the current Document# and press Ctrl+N to create a new document so you
can confirm that the spacing is now the way you want it to be.
