Word 2007 "Word Cannot Create the Work File" Error Message

When I attempt to open Word 2007, I get multiple errors. I'm using a Sandisk
Cruzer with U3 which may be related. Any suggestions, perhaps how to correct
registry.

Never use Word directly with any type of removable media. It is the number
one way to corrupt and lose document. Always work with the local HDD and
then copy to/from the removable media.

In my case, I am NOT using removable devices. I get this message every
time I start WORD 2007 (Win XP Pro SP3 all updates, Office Enterprise,
all updates), and It says to check environment variable TEMP.

I have cleared all file out of TEMP (I use C:\TEMP for all my temporary
settings, not the LOCAL stuff in Docs and Settings), re-booted, no
change. I even tried moving the TEMP variable to a different drive and
no change. The MS knowledgebase seems to want to send me to a
troubkeshooting page with no matching problems.

Can someone help ?

I have experienced the same problem and even using the Repair option in "Add
Remove Programs" didn't solve this. I am guessing we will have to do a full
uninstall/reinstall.

I don't believe that uninstalling/reinstalling will achieve anything. Also,
I don't believe that you can change the default location for the temp files
Word creates: some will be in the document target folder, others should be
in the user's temp folder and not in C:\Temp. IIRC, this is username |
application data | Microsoft | Temp for Windows XP users.

I am sure it will help by doing a full uninstall/reinstall. The reason I say
this is because I just reimaged my PC and reinstallled Office 2007 Enterprise
and added all the updates. It was working perfectly before I reimaged my
machine.

I am guessing something has been corrupted in the installation process,
whether it be the main files or one of the updates. I have tried all of the
suggested registry fixes from Microsoft and nothing works. I am going to try
a few more things on my own before I give up and do the uninstall/reinstall.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Uninstalling and reinstalling did indeed fix this error.

FYI: You can change the default locations for both the system temp file and
the Office file locations. Just edit the TEMP environment variable to point
to a location of your choice. In Office Enterprise 2007, there is an option
in each application to change the default file locations. In Word you access
this via the Word "Start Button"->Word Options->Save. In the dialog that
opens you have options to change settings for Autosave, Default file
location, Server drafts and web server.

I hope this is of some use.
