..doc is not a valid Win32 application

THE ABOVE IS AN ERROR MESSAGE I RECEIVE WHEN I TRY TO OPEN (BY DOUBLE
CLICKING) A WORD 2003 DOCUMENT USING WORD 2007.
I CAN OPEN THE 2003 WORD DOCUMENT FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2007
PROGRAMME BUT THIS IS MUCH MORE CUMBERSOME THAN OPENING THE 2003 WORD
DOCUMENT JUST BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON ITS ICON, WHICH IS WHAT I WANT TO BE ABLE
TO DO.
i TRY TO SET THE FILE ASSOCIATION FOR THE DOCUMENT TO WORD 2007 BUT I CANNOT
AS WHEN I TRY TO DO THIS WORD 2007 IS NOT AVAILABLE AS A PROGRAMME IN THE
FILE ASSOCIATION LIST, EVEN IF I BROWSE AND MANUALLY TRY TO INSERT WORD 2007
INTO THE LIST OF PROGRAMS FOR FILE ASSOCIATION IT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE LIST
OF PROGRAMMES.
I ALSO TRIED A REPAIR FROM WITHIN THE CONTROL PANEL AND THIS DID NOT WORK.
WHAT IS MOST ANNOYING IS THAT I INSTALLED OFFICE 2007 ONTO ANOTHER PC
RUNNING VISTA PREMIUM AND IT WORKS FINE BUT ON MY PC RUNNING VISTA BASIC,
WORD 2007 REFUSES TO OPEN ANY 2003 DOCUMENTS BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON THEM.
ANY HELP APPRECIATED AS I CANNOT FIND AN ANSWER ANYWHERE.....
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Dear Terry,
You seem to be proud to be a Microsoft MVP so if you cannot read what has
been written in uppercase then I suggest either you have a major malfunction
or else possibly you are full of yourself.
Either you can answer the question or you cannot.
Drop the BS.

Thank you for sparing me some of your most valuable time............

If you cannot write so that it is easy to read, why should anyone bother to
read or respond?

FYI, the eye trains itself to recognise words from their shapes, not by
looking at all the individual letters making up the words. Therefore it is
easy to read a word such as 'wood' or 'of' because of the shape of the word.
However, if you use all caps, then 'WOOD' and 'OF' loose most of their shape
and the eye then has to look at individual letters to identify the words.

So I suggest that if you want the maximum response to your questions, you
write it using an easy to read convention. I have no intention of straining
my eyes by reading hundreds of questions a day in all caps.

Dear Terry,
Please don't bother answering my question as I would feel very bad if you
strained your eyes......

Good work, keep up the great BS...

Could you please provide a solution. I have the same problem and quick search
from internet shows that there are lot of people having the same problem but
no actual solutions provided.

Thank you in advance,

Karu
