Word 2007Mouse Not Recognized

I am using Office 2007 with Windows Vista Home Premium. After workin
fine for a couple of weeks, Word 2007 has stopped responding to th
mouse when used in a document. The mouse works okay at the toolbar
etc., but is totally ineffective in a document, new or old. I did no
install any new programs between the time it worked and the time i
stopped. However, Microsoft may have automatically installed a Window
update.

As it is, Word 2007 is totally useless to me. Any suggestions?

I have the very same problem, but in Win xp, I have found lots of people
with the problem but no solution. I can login as the admin and it works
fine, but as a user it has the select problem.

Thanks for your comment. I have also discovered a great body of unhappy
WinWord 2007 users in the I-net. However, I did find one suggestion
which works for me. Start Word 2007 in "safe" mode (hold down the
control key while starting Word). This allows the mouse to work
normally, but removes many of the bells and whistles from Word. I am
amazed that Microsoft allows this situation to continue. Al

Hi Al,

If you're using Laserfiche or Paperport, older versions of those add-ins are not compatible. Also, if you have a mouse program
control panel that sets 'universal scrolling' turn on an Exception for MS Word, as those mouse programs can also cause it to stop in
Word.

FWIW, you rarely find folks posting when something works well, usually only when there are baffled by something and need help <g>.

Bob -
Thanks for your interest and your suggestions. Every little bit of
info helps. Unfortunately, none of your suggestions apply to my
situation. There seem to be quite an assortment of programs that
interfere with Word 2007 -- and that certainly looks like bad
programming to me. Maybe one day Microsoft will devise a fix. Lacking
that, I'll keep looking for clues as to what, exactly, is causing my
problem.

As for people being more likely to post if they have a problem, than
not. Well, isn't that sort of what one would expect?
