Word 2008 after install of Mac OS X 10.5.2

Hi,

I started to write a letter in Word and after typing the string "0165XSF", which is a reference number in my text) and hitting "enter", I get the message "This command is not available in this version of Microsoft Word."

I was not aware, that I was applying some command, I just entered my text, hit enter and got this message.

I worked a couple of days without any problems - before experiencing this issue, I installed Mac OS X 10.5.2.

I hope someboday can help!

Thanks and best regards

Thomas

I couldn't reproduce this. Sounds like something on your setup.

Maybe you could start by running Repair Permissions... ?

I already ran the Repair Permissions. I could reproduce this issue on two Macs. I did not change any settings after the initial setup of Office 2008...

I think it has decided that the string you entered is a command number in
hexadecimal, and it it is trying to "run" it. This has to be something to
do with smart tags (I can't reproduce it either...)

If you type the string, followed by a space and another word, then you can
hit Enter and come back and delete the spare text.

Hope this helps

Well, at least with the German version of Office 2008 it's pretty easy
to reproduce this strange and annoying error:
1. Open a new document in Draft or Layout mode.
2. Type in the first line as first words "12345 Test".
3. Press return.

You will get the German version of the error above: "Dieser Befehl ist
in dieser Version von Microsoft Word nicht verfügbar."

German Mac groups are full of angry people because of this bug. You
will get this message constantly for letters, e. g. for German
addresses like "60322 Frankfurt", for the start of a letter like
"Lieber Herr Schmidt,", for the date on the right side like
"13.03.08". One of the biggest German newspapers, the Frankfurter
Allgemeine Zeitung even warned not to buy Office 2008 yet just because
of this fatal bug. The only way to get rid of the error is to
deactivate Auto-Correction completely.

So this is really a major problem for Microsoft. And this error was
NOT fixed in 12.0.1!

Thanks. I'll put that through to the developers for you...
