Word 2008 disasters

I have had huge problems with the new mac word. First, taking a mac file to windows causes a problem, because spaces dispappear form the text. This is with the new file format. Even bigger problem concerns long documents. At some point my thesis manuscript went crazy (300 pages), and word claimed that there are 10798 pages, and no page after 175 can be accessed in the print preview mode. Fixes please!

The "Paginate forever" bug is easy: that's normally a bad section break, and
you can fix it with a "Maggie" (below). Note, it can be a bad paragraph
also, so if the Maggie doesn't fix it, come back and I'll tell you how to
find that too.

The spaces have not "disappeared", they have been changed to a different
character. If you do a fine/replace for a "space" and replace it with a
"space" that should correct it.

You may have to do this in Normal view, so that you can "copy" the missing
space and paste into the Find/Replace dialog. And do it in Word PC :)

1) Create a new blank document

2) Carefully select all of the text in the bad document EXCEPT the last
paragraph mark

3) Copy it.

4) Paste in the new document.

5) Save under a new file name and close all, then re-open.

This technique for de-corrupting is known as "Doing a 'Maggie'", after
Margaret Secara from the Word PC-L mailing list who first publicised the
technique.

Hope this helps
