Word 2008 encounters error and quits when I close any document

After the most recent update from Microsoft, I started having the following
problem: Whenever I close any document, even a brand new one that hasn't been
saved, Word "encounters an unexpected problem and needs to close." The error
report is quite long, and I don't know which part would be useful in figuring
out my problem, so I'll just copy the first part here. Thanks for your help!
If this problem has been answered before and I just couldn't find it in my
searches, it would be great if someone could just post the link to that post.

Hello -

The first thing I noticed in your error report is that you *don't* have the
latest Office update. The log indicates version 12.0.1 which was a minor
interim update that came out some time ago. The more recent (and major)
update is 12.1.0 (Service Pack 1) which is now available.

The first thing I'd suggest is that you apply that. Then repair disk
permissions & restart your Mac. It's quite probable that those steps will
rectify the problem. You can use Help> Check for Updates in any Office
application or go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx

If you still have any problems please post back with specifics.
