Word 2008 line spacing and style weirdness

L

Loren

I just upgraded to Office 2008 and am already encountering weirdness.

I can't change one set of paragraphs (of the same style) to single
space without changing the others.

But if I create a new "single" style based on normal, then I can't seem
to apply "normal" at all.

Something feels very non-intuitive here. Has something major changed
since 2004 I should know about?

Also, I can't believe how buggy the upgrade was -- Word was crashing at
quit and I had to delete my "Normal" template from the 2004 location
(~/Microsoft User Data/) before I could even quit Word 2008 without it
crashing. (It was failing to write Normal.dotm in the new ~/App
Support location).

Hi Loren,

your description is not exactly clear, but my guess is that you have
accidentally configured styles to update automatically. Once you've done
that, changes made to any paragraph of that style will be reflected in other
paragraphs as well. To revert to normal behaviour, place the cursor inside
the paragraph, then click on Format>Styles, Modify and disable "Update
automatically". Click OK as many times as necessary to get back to your main
document window, and the problem should have disappeared. If it has not,
post back!
