Word 2008 (Mac) doesn't open

I just did a clean install of Office 2008 on my Mac G5, running Mac OSX 10.4.11

I am able to open all of the applications in Office 2008, except for Word.

The error message I get when I open Word is:

"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
