Word 2008 refuses to accept Spaces assignment

I recently installed Office 2008. I initially did not remove 2004
because I wanted to be sure that 2008 worked properly first. After
everything was installed and 2008 ran properly, I went back and used
the RemoveOffice.app to remove Office 2004. However, it appears that
part of it is still there somewhere. First of all, although I have
assigned Word to Space 1 in the Spaces preferences, it does not take
(it worked with Word 2004). Also, I am using Unsanity's Fruit Menu and
assigned Ctrl-Option-O to Word 2004 as a keyboard shortcut. When I try
to assign the same combination, I get an error message that it is
already assigned to something else (obviously, Word 2004). How do I
get the Spaces assignment to stick and how do completely get rid of
Word 2004?

I don't know anything about the Unsanity product, but with most software
prior keystroke assignments need to be UN-assigned before they can be
RE-assigned. Some software will prompt to allow a switch but most will
simply not allow it. Perhaps that is the case here. However...

At the present time Word is not compatible with Spaces anyway - period. A
fix is reportedly in the works but hasn't yet been provided.
