Word 2008 Saving documents as docx

Can anyone tell me how to set my Word 2008 program so that it automatically
saves documents as .doc and not docx ?

My PC friends are getting annoyed with sending docs that I have not stopped
and saved in a .doc format

Really appreciate it

In Preferences, pick Save, then choose 'Word 97-2004 document (.doc)' next to Save Word files as.
