Word 2008 Spellcheck problem

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Out of the blue, spellcheck now underlines correctly spelled words, and ignores incorrectly spelled words. Does this on new documents. It's is as if the spell check instructions have been reversed. Any idea how to fix?

Most likely you've pasted content copied form another source or in some
other way wound up with text that's formatted for the wrong Language.

Although the optimum approach is to control the Language formatting - just
as any other - through the use of Styles, you should be able to:

Command+A (to select All)
Go to Tools> Language, select the appropriate Language

If that doesn't put it right reply with any additional details.

Doesn't work. This happens when opening a new Word doc.
When I select all, then follow above, this clears up the current document, but when I open a new Word doc, it starts all over again.
Perhaps there is a way to "save" language selected??

Any additional help appreciated.

Bob Jones,
I tried saving the language setting as the "default", and it appears to have worked. I will post again if I still have problems.
Thanks for your help.

Good work - apparently the default language setting in your Normal.dotm
template somehow got changed to something other than what you prefer it to
be. Resetting the Default should correct it in new documents.

Just keep in mind that Language is a formatting attribute, so if the
Language is not correct when you create/modify a style & use the 'Add to
template' checkbox the style is saved in the Normal.dotm accordingly.
