Word 2008 Will Not Launch on iMac G5

J

jcormac

Powerpoint, Excel, and Entourage all seem to launch on my iMac G5 running 10.5.1. Word is stuck in a continuing cycle of launching, crashing, and then error sending. I had previously been running Office X and deleted it as part of the installation process.

Below is what I see on the report, any ideas from where to seek help?

This fault has been caused by an incomplete removal of Office X.

Run the Remove Office tool from the Office 2008 CD, then re-install.

You need to get the dead bits of Office X out before you can fix this.

Cheers

Did you run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions (or comparable) following
the installation? How did you "delete" Office X? Did you hold on to any of
the application files (such as preferences - not user docs) from X?

Thanks for both suggestions. Actually, I got it working without doing either although I still suspect Office X interference. After opening PP, Excel, and Entourage I was able to force-quit Word and, after a couple of tries, was able to get it working.

Just to be safe, I'm going to perform both of your suggestions as I doubt either will hurt and repairing permissions is almost never a bad idea in any event.

Thanks for the responses.
