Word 2010 Beta not responding

Jim

I recently bought a Sony Vaio computer with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
edition. I found Office 2010 Professional online and downloaded the beta
version for free until the real one comes out later this year. All of the
office suites (Excel, PowerPoint, etc) all work, but when I open up Word,
within seconds it freezes up and no matter where I click (even to close it) I
get the not responding message and have to close it with task manager. I use
Word more than any other application/program on my computer and I love the
new Office 2010 and don't want 2007. Does anyone know of a solution for me?
I tried uninstalling all of 2010 and reinstalling it and it still doesn't
work. Please HELP!

I think I'm reposting to the newsgroup here. I found one suggestion about
typing in wordwin.exe /a and it worked. BUT when I closed it out and
reopened Word it froze again/not responding. Not sure what to do?

Jim: When you can start Word with the /a switch in the command line,
that means there is a problem in the default template named
Normal.dotm or in an add-in. Since you just installed Office, it's
very unlikely that there are any add-ins. So suspicion falls on
Normal.dotm.

With Word shut down, open the Computer application from the Start
menu. Paste this line into the address bar at the top:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates

and press the Enter key. Locate the file Normal.dotm and delete it.
(Again, since you just installed Office, there won't be any
customizations in the file that need to be saved.)

Now try starting Word without the /a switch. Let us know what happens.

I presume that you have installed Office 2010 beta 64-bit? Have you
installed a compatible 64-bit printer driver and set as the Windows default?

@Terry Farrel

I recently encountered this same issue and found that the printer driver I had installed worked for everything non-MS. However, it did work for FrontPage 2003. I tried printing and/or saving from multiple Office 2007 applications, as well as Office 2010 applications and the programs would crash every time. Upon your suggestion, I installed another printer driver and set it as the default. What do you know, it worked! Everything is confirmed working now

Thank you for your help

Royce
