This one really has me stumped. Usually I can find a solution online
but this time I have had no luck.
I have a template with defined styles. We don't use any of Word'
original styles. I created the template, so I know it's pretty clean.
created it from a blank template (vs Normal) and all the styles wer
based on no style with the company name (e.g., <company> body text
<company> Heading 1, etc).
While I was working on my document, I think Word decided to play a tric
on me. It's done this once before last week. Before that (and I've bee
using this template for 2-3 months) it had never done anything lik
this.
A few notes:
**I'm using Word 2010. The document is a .docx (based on a .dot
template)
**I'm a pretty experienced Word user, so it's not any of the usual "m
document went crazy" instances (like inadvertently deleting a sectio
break, having styles automatically update, etc)
**I _think_ it might have been after I inserted the table of content
for the first time. (the most recent one was, but I can't remember fo
sure when this happended the first time)
**I'm pretty sure both times was when I left the document open for a
hour or so while working in another program.
**There's no step in my undo list where this happended.
**I don't mess with my Normal template. I've never saved any changes t
it and it is small (55KB) so I don't think it's holding any gremlins.
When I went back to my document, almost all my styles are completel
screwed up. My <company> Heading 1 text was completely stripped and wa
now Normal (a style that is not used in this template). All my tex
tagged <company> body text (all the styles I reference from hereon hav
the company name in front of it) was now tagged <company> Heading 1 (bu
the text was not formatted as Heading 1. My Heading 3s became Heading 1
(formatted as the larger heading). My Bullet 1 text (a paragraph styl
based on no style) became Table Left text. All my table text (Table Lef
Text, Table Center Text, and Table Right Text) became Body Text.
There was no rhyme or reason in what it changed things to (except fo
the fact that it changed all the instances of a style to the differen
one). I saw someone having a somewhat similar problem, but it wa
related to the Document Map. Word 2010 doesn't have a document map (a
far as I know)
