Word 2k: Colour options disabled in Paint Bucket and Line Colour

I cannot select fill colours or line colours. The colour
palette is greyed out entirely.

Any help appreciated

What type of object are you trying to modify? AutoShape? Word Table?

If the latter then you need to use the Tables and Borders toolbar -
right-click any toolbar to turn it on.
