Word 6 locking up PowerPC w/ OS9

I'm running OS 9.0.4 on a Mac PowerPC 9600/300. I just installed
Word 6. I did a "typical" installation.

When I try to launch Word, it locks up my computer. It doesn't
get far at all before it locks up. It does so before the "desktop"
disappears.

I increased memory allocation with no results.

Can anyone help me with possible reason(s) for this problem?

While some people have reported marginal success running Word 6 in OS 9,
it is officially "not compatible" with that OS. See
