Word 97 and footnotes

J

Jeff Malka

I am using Office 97 (with the latest updates) in a laptop with XP Home. I
read repeatedly in the XP forum that Office 97 runs fine under XP.

However I was
working on a Word 97 document which had a lot of footnotes. Somewhere along
the way, the footnotes beyond a certain one got cross-linked and all messed
up. Opening such footnotes, or even attempting to delete them, caused Word
to crash repeatedly. The only way I could resolve the problem was by
deleting the second half of the document and re-creating it by retyping it
all over.

The XP forum expert say this has nothing to do with me running Office 97
under XP. Is this a known problem in WORD and how does one resolve it when
it happens.

Thanks.
