word 97 and sbs 2003

I have just installed sbs 2003 server and the workstations are win 2000. i ahve office 97 and when I save a word 97 document it takes 40-45 seconds to save to the users active directory. Excel 97 does not have this problem nor any other office application. I cannot figure out if this is a word 97 problem, sbs 2003 active directory problem or a win 2000 problem. any ideas on how to troubleshoot.
