word 97 and windows xp are not getting along

Hello there
I am having some trouble with my word 97 program. I
recently upgraded my computer to windows xp and now when
I launch the word program, the whole desktop changes
(icons change to older versions and the screen will
initially go black before having a messed up resolution.
Can anyone help me? Let me know at the above email

1. Are you up to date with Word 97 service packs, and Windows XP service
packs/patches?
2. Try updating your video driver.
