word 97 and word 2002 ?

Hi,
At work we all use office 97. I want to purchase office 2000 or 2002 for my
home.
I bring work home quite often and edit ,etc on my PC in Office 97. will I
still be able to open files from work (97) and bring docs back and forth? I
do know about access and how you must stipulate saves, etc . I was wondering
about word(actually and excel).
