Word 97 closes when click on print

Word 97 closes when click on print in file/print of Word.
OS win vista, puter/printer/monitor HP. all brand new.
wanting to be able to use word as i did in previous old puter (was win
98se). word 97 worked fine in there.
now with this totally new hardware and OS, word just won't print. tried
step one & two under "How to Eliminate Document-Specific Printing Problems"
in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254233/EN-US/
didn't work.

i did not try steps three & four cuz i didn't use such templates for any
document.

did not try the delete and reinstall printer, cuz i'm a bit wary that
printer may malfunction if try it. instructions for this is with same link
under "What Are Some Other Things I Can Try?"


anyone with any other ideas?

It seems as if a macro is intercepting the FilePrint command. Did you
recently install an add-in? To find out, take a look at this article:
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm.

If the problem is not being caused by an add-in, the macro has been added to
normal.dot. With Word closed, rename the template; the next time you start
Word, a fresh copy will be created, and the problem should be resolved.
