Word 97 closing after running spell checker

I am having a problem. Unfortunately it is only intermittent. But I use Word 97 and on occassion, when I run the spell checker, after it is done running, it will say Word performed an illegal operation. Then when I look at details it says it caused an invalid page fault. Has anyone had this problem and do you have a solution?
