Word 97 'Doc may be corrupt' dialog

K

Keith Hewlett

Using Word 97 under both Win98 & NT4
Multiple documents all with lots of text & many graphics (all .jpeg)
Some display "This document may be corrupt" dialog when opened,
although they all open, edit, save, and print just fine.
Other similar documents do not exhibit this dialog
Copying contents to new blank docs doesn't get rid of the dialog
Any thoughts anyone ?

When you copied the contents, did you make sure *not* to include the
final paragraph mark of the document? First press Ctrl+A to select the
entire document and then hold the Shift key while you press the Left
Arrow to deselect the final paragraph mark. Finally, copy and paste
into a new file.

Note that if the this procedure doesn't help, your template might be
corrupt. If it's the blank document template (normal.dot) you can
rename it with Word closed; a new one will be created the next time
you start Word.

In a document created from a fresh normal.dot, try recreating the
corrupt file as explained above.

For more information about corrupt documents and templates and how to
recover them, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.

Thanks Stefan, that works a treat
Is Word designed to mess with one's head, or does it just do it by accident ?
