Word 97 error message

Recently bought an Emachine which I was told would do everything the HP I was
looking at. Getting error message in Work 97 that states "there is an
application file error and has to close". Is this a software problem or is
it something with E Machines?

I doubt it's the computer. In order to help you with the error you are
encountering we need to know when the error occurs. Are you
starting/exiting Word? Printing? Saving?
