Word 97: files and folders switched to reverse order

A

Al

Hi,

All folders (and files inside them) in My Documents all of
a sudden have changed their order to reverse (Z to A, 9 to
1). This is viewable both when I open My Documents folder
directly and from inside a Word file. Wnat's more
interesting, occasionally I get the correct order (A to Z)
but when I open the folders/files again, it's back to the
reverse. I never changed anything in the settings. I even
reinstalled Word but it didn't help. Any ideas?

Hi, I've fixed this glitch myself but I'm posting this for
the others should they run into this annoying glitch. In
the Open dialogue box, click on Commands and Settings (the
last button on the right), select Sorting in the menu,
finally select Ascending/Descending. Again, this reversal
had been spontaneous.

If I understand your problem, it sounds like your problem lies in Windows Explorer and not Word.

(I'm looking at Windows XP for these instructions) Launch Windows Explorer, right above the listed files and folders you'll see
a grayish looking bar that says 'Name' on it and an arrow. Just click that grayish looking button, and you'll see the arrow shift
direction and the files will be reordered.
