Word 97 frozen with morning's work

I'm a creative writer. This morning my word '97 froze, imprisoning my
mornings work. Normally I have multiple backups, but today I forgot to turn
them on (wouldn't you know it!). I have the "frozen" file (only) in the
word auto recover folder, but can't open it. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd
appreciate it.

Hi Don,

Try opening the 'frozen' file with Wordpad or, failing that, Notepad. With Notepad, you should at least be able to revover the text
(which you should also be able to do with Word's 'recover text from file' option).

Thanks for responding Macropod. I'd tried the "file converter" route, but it
didn't work. Your idea did work and you've saved me a lot of time. Many
thanks.

All the best. Don
