Word 97 - Long pause when selecting font menu

I'm running Word 97 on Win 98 on a fairly speedy machine.
Everything I do is fast -- except the first time I try to
change a font. I get a lag of up to a minute when I try
to select the pulldown font menu from the toolbar. I
checked to see if the fonts were running off the network,
or if there were millions installed -- nope. And if I
bring up my Windows Fonts folder, I get a speedy response,
and I can view any of them quickly. Any suggestions?

Hi Warren -

Are you using a network printer? Word displays the fonts available on the
current printer, so if it takes time to find it that may explain your pause.
