Word 97 saving doc issues

I believe I have a virus and want to transfer my documents
to another PC but when I save documents I get:

Word has insufficient memory. Do you want to save doc as a
Rescued Document?


MS tech support says to fix this you click on "Insert"
then on "Bookmarks" but the I get "There is insufficient
memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save your
work."

I have plenty of diskspace.

Help!

The symptoms would suggest that you may have a virus and you will need to
eradicate it before you can do any other work with the computer. Meantime,
use Windows Explorer to copy the documents to some form or removable media
to transfer to another computer. BUT make sure that you have an up to date
virus scanner on the other computer before transferring files.
