Word 97 Tables

I am having problems with Word documents received by email.
Tables lose their formatting (lines, column widths, the lot).
Is there any way of thwarting this either by the sender or by the
receiver?

The problem is caused primarily by the different printer drivers used by
sender and recipient. A solution is to use (non-editable) PDF format for
posting documents to which end there is a variety of options linked from the
favourites page of my web site.
