Word 97 -- where is error log?

I have a recurring problem that causes Word 97 (SR2) to fail. The resulting
dialog box says "winword.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. An error log is being generated."

What is the name of this error log and in what folder is it usually stored?

The error log is created by Dr. Watson. For more on this, see "Description
of the Dr. Watson for Windows (Drwtsn32.exe) Tool" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308538 Although this article is for
Windows XP, Dr. Watson was introduced in Windows 3.1.
