Word 97 Word 2000

Hi

Having replaced the hard drive in my PC, I used the OEM's
restore facility to reinstall the as-supplied operating
system (Windows Me) and programs including MS Works 2000.
Additionally, I reinstalled other applications that I had
been using including Office 97 Pro and Excel 2000. I then
ran Windows update and Office update for security fixes
etc.
Previously when I launched Word I got Word 97 which was
OK. Now, Word 2000 starts but cannot be used because it
requires me to register with a 25 digit code that I do not
have because I never purchased nor installed Word 2000.
Word 2000 does not appear in the list of installed
programs in Add or Remove programs.
How can I get back to using Word 97?
(In case Norton AntiVirus conflicts may be a cause, I
should say that I use SystemWorks 2003 and Personal
Firewall 2003.)

Its possible that copy of Word 2000 came with Works 2000. You should contact
the manufacturer of your computer to get product key, since the software
came with your PC.

Have you tried pressing "Next" and see what happens, sometimes it works and
does not require a product key.

The bad news is that "Next" didn't work. The good news is
that I had made a note of the product key when installing
Word so it is now up and running.
Thanks for reminding me to start with the obvious when
troubleshooting. Recovering from a system failure has been
traumatic and has clearly addled my brain!
