Word 97/XP

Hi, I am running Windows XP on a Toshiba Satellite with
Word 97. When I open any of my existing word documents a
message appears "(name of document).doc is being used by
(my name). Do you want to make a copy?" I just press
cancel - but why is this annoying message appearing?
