Word 97

Nancy Newman

I copied a very large file by logging in to an intranet
and can not open this file in Word 97 - message is can't
open the file, try using file/open etc and that it has
a .doc extension. I've also tried the troubleshooting
damaged documents things to do if the document won't open.
Possibly something to do with the server I copied the
document from???
Any suggestions please
Thank you
Nancy

Try File, Open and select the Recover Text from Any File option and see if
you can open it. MAKE SURE TO REVERT that setting back to Word *.DOCS when
finished because it is a sticky setting.

Hi Terry,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it hasn't worked -
still can't open the *!*! file. Any other suggestions?

Wow, it must be VERY corrupt. The last ditch attempt will be to open it in a
text editor such as Notepad or WordPad if it is too big for Notepad.

HI Terry,
That worked - it does open in WordPad. As all of the
graphics, formatting etc. is lost it isn't a lot of use to
me. Wonder what happened to the file to mess it up - I
had downloaded/copied others from the same intranet
without any problem.
Thank you so much for your help.
Regards
Nancy
