Word 98 Users: Help Please!

B

Beth Rosengard

If you're a Word 98 user or have it installed somewhere or know someone who
does, I could really use your help. I'm writing an article about
troubleshooting Word 2001 and Word 98 (which will eventually be published at
word.mvps.org) and I have no way of checking some Word 98 details.

Specifically, I need to know the exact locations of two Word 98 files:

Word Settings (8)
Microsoft Office Settings

In Word 2001, the paths for the comparable files look like this:

System folder/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (9)
System folder/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Office Settings

Are the paths the same in Word 98? If not, what are they?

Thanks very much for your help!

That may possibly depend on the OS under which it is run.

Although my iBook came with OS X on it, I rely 99.99% on Mac OS 9.2.2
installed on a separate partition. MS Office 98, with Word 98, is on
that partition.

The files

Word Settings (8)
Microsoft Office Settings (8)

appear only as two of the 670+ entries in

System Folder:preferences

Thanks much, Hylton! That confirms what I thought: There was no
"Microsoft" folder in Preferences until Office 2001.

I can confirm this for my installation (originally OS 8.1, now OS 9.1).
I reinstalled Word98 (the only Word version I've had on this computer)
last fall and that's where these files are still
