Word & Access email merge without Outlook

Am creating emails in Word mailmerge based on contacts from Access. How do I
stop Outlook from doing Check Names after clicking on Word's Merge to E-Mail?
I am not very familiar with Outlook but do not want to have to add hundreds
of contacts into it, one at a time.

Although I have come across this problem before, I never knew exactly what
caused it, and it no longer occurs here. As a temporary workaround you
should be able to import, but avoid "one at a time" using
Outlook|File|Import and Export...|Import from another program or
file|Microsoft Access etc. You get an opportunity to "map" your field names
to the appropriate Outllok fields, If you need to get rid of these contacts
later, you could try
a. importing them into a new contact folder (don't know if this would solve
the problem)
b. map a field from Access in such a way that it is very easy to identify
which contacts you imported, create a view in Outlook that allows you to
select only those items, etc.

We are trying to merge to e-mail with Excel but it doesn't actually send the
e-mails. I've tried Plain Text, HTML, etc., but nothing makes a difference. I
have tried to use contacts from Outlook, but it doesn't work. I have a
feeling that there is a set-up step that I'm missing - something that tells
Word who our e-mail provider is, etc. I set up a Hotmail account, but still
cannot get this to work. Any help you can provide would be GREAT!
