Word accesses local network when trying to open document

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I've got a small network set up between mine and my
brothers computer. It is a simple USB bridge connection,
which we use to share the internet connection using
microsft ICS.

For some reason, whenever I load up a document in Word
(both 2002 and 2000) 'Generic Host for Win32'
(svchost.exe) listens to port tcp 5000 for a while before
actually displaying the document. This has a big delay on
opening times, and makes Word unstable.

I can stop the problem by using Zone Alarm to halt all
network activity but I don't want to do this every time I
need to use Word. Is port 5000 something to do with
Universal Plug and Play? I don't see why Word wants to
listen for connections on this port.

Does anyone know of a way to stop this happening?

Is the printer networked? Word must have access to a printer driver to work
properly; the default printer driver should always be one that is available
locally (it doesn't have to be connected to a physical printer).

Oh yeah. I've set up a dummy local printer as default, and
that has fixed the problem.

Thanks
