Word Add-in resets Word options???

A

Alex

In Word I set the following under Tools | Options | View :

Show
[v] Status bar
[v] Horizontal scroll bar
[v] Vertical scroll bar
Field shading: [ Always ]

Formatting marks
[v] Hidden Text

Print and Web Layout options
[v] Object anchors
[v] Text boundaries

If I run Word when my add-in is disabled, those settings stick.
However, once I enable the add-in and run Word, they get reset.

I do not explicitly change them in the add-in.

Any ideas?

Best wishes,
Alex.

Hi

Based on my test, I can not reproduce the problem.
Also when you use Word Editor in Outlook, there will be a winword.exe held
in memory.
So please make sure there is no winword.exe in memory when you make the
test.

I do not understand your answer.

How can I "make sure there is no winword.exe in memory" when I am testing a *Word* add-in?

Best wishes,
Alex.

Hi Alex,

I am sorry if I did not make it clear.
1. I can not reproduce the problem based on my reproduce steps.
2. when we run Outlook, and use Word as editor. Even if we close all the
outlook windows exception the main outlook windows. The winword.exe is
still running. Which may affect your test result.
So I suggest you use the Windows Task Manager to see if there is a process
named winword.exe running. If yes, please exit related process(e.g.
outlook) to make sure the winword.exe is not in the process list. (tip: you
can kill the winword.exe)

And then you can make the test to see if the test result is changed.

This is even more confusing.

What does it have to do with Outlook?

Hi

I just explain why you may see winword.exe in the process list even when
you did not run the Word application, because the outlook may lauch it.

So please follow the steps below to have a test.
1. open the Windows Task Manager
2. select the Processes Tab to see if there is winword.exe process
3. If yes, kill all the winword.exe
4. Now there should be no winword.exe running and please test your Addin to
see if that will reset your setting in the word(BTW: I can not reproduce
the behavior that addin reset word's setting)
5. If yes, please try to comment out the code one by one to see which code
line caused the problem.

Please perform the test above and let me know the result.
