Word always opens in a new email screen

I have a friend who has Word 2000 installed. It used to work fine. Now
whenever he opens Word, it opens not in a document, but with a new email
message (unaddressed). When he closes the email message, it reverts to a
document. This is very annoying. Does anyone know what may cause this, or
how to get it to stop?

I knew about this solution for text that always came up. It never occurred
to me that opening in an email format could be a style change to the
normal.dot. I'll try this. Thanks.

I'm not sure what the button is in Word 2000, but in Word 2002 and 2003,
there is an E-mail button on the Standard toolbar that can toggles the mail
header on and off. The state of this button *should* be saved when you quit
Word, but if it is not, then toggling it in Normal.dot might help; see

Are you saying it opens as a BLANK email - completely empty? That's totally
different and not what you said. You said it opened as an unaddressed email,
not an empty email. Just press the Send To button and it will toggle off the
blank email.
