Word and autotext

T

Tim Giles

Hi

I've upgraded a computer and put the same version of Word
on (95). When I did this I'd copied the normal.dot over
which has hundreds of autotexts. but now with the
autotext what was normal type is now bold and what was
bold is now normal. Any ideas on restoring it back to
normal. I've since undated to word 2003 and it still
happens.

Thanks

Hi Tim,

First, I would not use a Normal.dot from Word 95 since the file format
has changed. I would move the AutoText entries to a global template
and allow Word to create a new Normal.dot.

A global template is a template placed in the Word/Startup folder
found under Tools/Options/File Locations. When Word starts it will
load the template and make the AutoText entries available.

The AutoText entries will be a little more protected than they are in
Normal.dot and it isn't advised to store customizations in Normal.dot
that you aren't willing to lose.

Here's what you need to do
- Create a new template
- Save it in the Word\Startup folder
- Go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and click the Organizer command
- Copy all AutoText entries from Normal.dot to the new template
- Exit Word
- Rename Normal.dot to OldNormal.dot
- Restart Word
